Extreme or very high risk of fire in several Greek regions on Sunday, including Attica

The Fire Risk Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection for Sunday predicts an Extreme Fire Risk - State of Alert (Category 5) in Attica, Crete, Kythera, Evia, Laconia and parts of the Northern Aegean, as well as Very High Fire Risk (Category 4) in many other parts of Greece.
The regions and regional units where a Category 5 Extreme Fire Risk - State of Alert is forecast include:
- Attica  (including the island of Kythera)
- Central Greece (regional unit of Evia except the island of Skyros)
- Peloponnese (regional unit of Laconia)
- Crete
- North Aegean (the islands of Lesvos, Chios, Samos and Ikaria).

Very High Fire Risk (Category 4) is forecast in the following regions:
- Peloponnese
- Western Greece (regional units of Achaia and Ilia)
- Central Greece (regional units of Viotia, Fthiotida and Evia including Skyros)
- Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (regional units of Thasos, Rodopi, Evros including Samothrace)
- North Aegean (Limnos)
- South Aegean

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection has informed the state services involved, as well as regional and local authorities in the above areas to be on heightened alert to deal promptly with any outbreak of fire. It has also warned the public to avoid any activities outdoors that may accidentally start a fire, such as bonfires, use of machinery that creates sparks, barbecues, handling beehives or throwing away lit cigarettes.
