Fire Dept: 40 fires in last 24 hours in Greece; Peania one under partial control

A total of 40 wildfires broke out in Greece in the last 24 hours, the Fire Department said on Friday.
Of the total, 33 were put out immediately in their initial phase, and firefighters were still battling another 7 as of Friday evening.
A fire in low brush in the Argithea area of Peania, Attica, was placed under partial control.
According to the Fire Department, the fire broke out around 18:30 near a village and involved a total of 50 firefighters with 2 'forest commando' units, 15 fire trucks and volunteers, 2 airplanes and 4 helicopters.
Residents of Boura Papangelaki village in the Peania area received a warning through the 112 emergency messaging service to be on alert and follow directions of authorities, in case they need to evacuate.
Local investigation officers and the Fire Department's investigators are looking into the causes of the fires.
The Fire Department calls on all citizens to be particularly careful and follow authorities' directives in case of fire.
