Fire in Palea Fokea caused by a power cable based on initial evidence, Kefalogiannis says

Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis told SKAI TV in an interview on Friday that the fire in Palea Fokea, based on the initial evidence, was probably started by a spark from a Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) power cable.
According to the minister, Thursday's wildfire began in a mixed residential and green area, then spread rapidly through uncleared ravines. The immediate mobilisation of the Fire Department and Civil Protection forces - which had recently carried out an exercise in the area - contributed decisively to the rescue of citizens and containing the damage, he added.
In total, there were 40 rescue operations of people in danger, while three houses were completely destroyed and 10 more suffered damage. Kefalogiannis expressed his warm thanks to the firefighters and everyone who contributed to the extraordinary effort made.
