Meeting led by Kefalogiannis on upcoming extreme weather conditions; Fire Brigade on alert

Τhe Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Yannis Kefalogiannis convened on Thursday afternoon inter-ministerial meeting due to the extreme weather conditions that will prevail on Friday and the Weekend. This was preceded by a meeting of the Scientific Risk Assessment Committee.

The fire brigade will remain on alert, and access to forests, groves, and parks in very high-risk areas will be restricted, according to a decision made at a recent coordination meeting.

In a statement, the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection warned of an “ explosive mix” of weather conditions, including high temperatures, lightning, dry storms, and sudden wind bursts expected on Friday in mainland and northern Greece. Over the weekend, strong winds are also forecast for Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the Eastern Aegean, Crete, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, Attica, Eastern Central Greece, and the Eastern Peloponnese.
