FinMin Pierrakakis meets with Cypriot counterpart Keravnos

The Minister of Economy and Finance Kyriakos Pierrakakis met on Wednesday with his Cypriot counterpart Makis Keravnos discussing the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026.

Pierrakakis congratulated Keravnos on the excellent performance of the Cypriot economy, as he said.  "We decided to strengthen our coordination in a bilateral and European context, especially in view of the Republic of Cyprus assuming the EU presidency in the first half of 2026. Greece will actively support the Cypriot Presidency, both politically and technically. Our coordination will be strategic, especially in view of Greece's assumption of the EU Presidency in the second half of 2027," he stressed.

Keravnos, for his part, underlined the emphasis that the Cyprus EU Presidency is expected to place on the smooth coordination of the Member States’ economic and fiscal policies within the framework of the European Semester, in light of ongoing geopolitical developments and the challenges arising from last year's implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan.
