Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the sidelines of the NATO Summit on Wednesday.

Discussions focused on strategic Greece-US relations, developments in the Middle East and the Mediterranean, according to a post by the Greek foreign ministry on social media.

Diplomatic sources said that the meeting took place in an excellent atmosphere.

The US Secretary of State emphasised Greece's reliability as a partner and ally within NATO in the Eastern Mediterranean, highlighting the importance he places on Greece's role as a stabilising factor in the region, the same sources noted.

On his part, Gerapetritis referred to US efforts to de-escalate tensions in the broader Middle East.

Both expressed their commitment to strengthening strategic bilateral relations, diplomatic sources said. Emphasis was placed on the importance of interregional cooperation as a means to promote stability and development.

The US Secretary of State expressed his desire to visit Greece in the near future.
