Very high risk of fire in four Greek regions on Sunday

There is a very high risk of fire (level 4) in Attica Region and in places of the Regions of Central Greece, the North Aegean, and Crete, on Sunday, according to the Fire Risk Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection at the Climate Crisis & Civil Protection Ministry (civilprotection.gov.gr) on Saturday.
The risk of fires is classified on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being a state of emergency.
Specifically, the regions under threat from fire on Sunday are as follows:
- Region of Attica
- Region of Central Greece (especially Regional Unit of Evia)
- Region of Crete (Regional Units of Rethymno, Heraklion, Lassithi)
- Region of North Aegean (Regional Units of Lesvos, Chios, Samos, Ikaria)
The local and relevant state, regional, and municipal authorities have been warned by the ministry to be on alert.
Citizens are urged to be particularly careful and avoid outdoor activities that might start a fire, including using equipment creating sparks. It should also be noted that during the fire period (May 1-October 31) there is a y ban on burning farm fields.
Citizens are also urged to call the Fire Department at number 199 if they notice a fire.
