Gerapetritis: Greece will maintain its principled stance on the Palestinian issue

Greece will maintain its principled stance on the Palestinian issue and will always be at the forefront in humanitarian affairs, Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis said in Parliament on Friday, replying to opposition Plefsi Eleftherias party leader Zoi Konstantopoulou.
"We are now at a critical phase. In the last few days I spoke with the foreign ministers of the entire region, with all the Arabs, and we have a specific opinion about where things are going," the minister said, in response to a question about the government's actions "in connection with the victims of the genocide in Gaza, Palestine". He stressed that a "peace plan for Gaza is underway and we hope that this will prove successful in the next few days," while noting that this was up to Hamas. "There is the Arab plan, which Greece supports, for the reconstruction of Gaza and we will continue to consider that the crucial thing at this time is to end the humanitarian crisis, for all of us to act together so that we can stop the nightmare happening at this time and which, unfortunately, appears to be multiplying instead of calming down due to the situation prevailing in the surrounding region, with the conflict between Iran and Israel, and for peace and prosperity to return to an extremely vulnerable region," Gerapetritis said.
Konstantopoulou criticised the government's policies, accusing it of turning a "blind eye to Israel's international crimes" and the fact that the prime minister continued to contact the Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite the international warrant issued the International Criminal Court for his arrest, accusing him of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
