Hatzidakis: End to the conspiracy theories

After the country passed through the realm of conspiracy theories - with xylene and missing train carriages - it is now returning to the real issues concerning the Tempi train collision, which is the accident itself and assigning responsibility, Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis emphasised on Thursday on SKAI radio station, following the conclusion of Parliamentary debate on establishing a preliminary investigation committee for the Tempi train tragedy. He noted that a total of 43 separate prosecutions have been filed in connection with the two case files, which concerned former ministers, and that New Democracy did what was necessary, referring the case to the competent court.
"The statements made yesterday in Parliament regarding Tempi demonstrated that the government's attitude was calm, without any tendency to cover things up but also far removed from criminal populism. On the other hand, there was a demagogic approach from PASOK and an ultimate vilification voiced by the heterogeneous coalition of smaller parties," underlined Hatzidakis, adding: "It’s time to do what the citizens who gathered in the squares during the winter demanded: to refer the matter to the competent (natural) court. That is what the rule of law and the standards of democracy require."
