Androulakis: PM attempting to paint himself as a victim of the Tempi tragedy, instead of the families

Parliament was once again witnessing an attempt by the prime minister to present himself as a persecuted victim, main opposition PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis asserted on Wednesday during a debate discussing a proposal for a preliminary parliamentary investigation committee into the tragic Tempi train collision, tabled by four of the smaller opposition parties.
He accused the prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, of "setting up a show of self-victimisation, as if the tragedy were his, and not that of the grieving families," while adding that the "attempt to convert today's discussion into a personal political narrative is pitifully cheap".
Greek society demands truth and justice, not twisting of the truth, hypocrisy and communications, Androulakis stressed. He also criticised the proposal brought by the four minor opposition parties as a "boon" for the prime minister, since they departed from the charges in the case and permitted Mitsotakis to paint himself as the victim.
"As a result, instead of offering an explanation for exonerating his minister for the second time from felony charges, he does not hesitate to go on the offensive,” Androulakis stated. “ Who is the victim here, Mr. Mitsotakis? You? The one who protected Mr. Karamanlis from being investigated over his alleged criminal responsibility in the 717 contract case?”
Androulakis went on to accuse the prime minister of preventing Karamanlis and other government officials from facing justice, describing it as “ a calculated plan to cover up your responsibilities.”
“ You've reached the point, Prime Minister, where your desperate attempt to play the victim has led to your own self-ridicule,” he said, adding that “ your manoeuvres and contradictions have fueled conspiracy theories and deepened public mistrust.”
