Wildfires in Eretria, Grammatiko under control

A fire that broke out in Eretria on the island of Evia on Wednesday, burning dry grass and olive trees, has been placed under partial control.
Strong firefighting forces were operating in the area, using ground crews and aircraft, while volunteers were also participating in the operation. According to the initial reports, the fire front had been heading towards residential areas but the latest assessments showed the situation had improved due to prompt intervention by fire-fighting aircraft.
Due to the outbreak of the fire, a warning message was sent via the emergency number 112 to mobile phones in the surrounding area, advising increased vigilance and avoidance of unnecessary travel.
The deputy governor of Evia, Giorgos Kelaiditis, stated to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA) that "the immediate intervention of the ground and air firefighting forces, volunteers and machinery of the Central Greece Region prevented the worst in Eretria, Evia. The entire mechanism was activated immediately and we were able to contain the risks. The effort continues until the fire is completely extinguished."

The wildfire that broke out earlier on Wednesday in a forest area in Grammatiko has been placed under control.
A total of 15 fire engines operated by 55 fire fighters, two teams of firefighters on foot, volunteers, two firefighting aircraft and three helicopters took part in the operation
Wildfire in Kinidaros, Naxos island
Another wildfire broke out in a forest area in Kinidaros, Naxos island.
A total of five fire-engines operated by 13 fire fighters, assisted by two aircraft and a helicopter, were battling the blaze.
