Mitsotakis to Les Échos: Boosting the role of technology and innovation in the economy

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in an interview with the French financial newspaper Les Échos, refers to Greece's advantages in the fields of technology and innovation as well as to the progress achieved in recent years regarding the digital modernisation of the country.
The French newspaper underlines that since his first election in 2019, Mitsotakis has been working intensively to accelerate Greece's digital transformation.
It also points out that a large number of public services have been digitised through the Gov.gr platform. He also notes that Mitsotakis does not rule out the possibility of Greece becoming the next “ start-up nation” and wants these sectors to contribute, in the long term, up to 10% of Greek GDP.
When asked, Mitsotakis said that Greece can play a role in shaping the new AI landscape in Europe. "This technology offers us an opportunity to get ahead of the game: we are a medium-sized country, which makes it easier for us to centralise project management. Our government understands and is committed to the technology sector. In any case, we want to be a leader in terms of AI innovation in public administration, and I am particularly interested in the development of applications that will simplify the functioning of public services, Mitsotakis stressed and underlined that technology and innovation can play a more important role in the economy.
Mitsotakis also referred to GOV.GR, which is expected to handle over 1.4 billion digital transactions in 2023-a number he said is steadily increasing. He also highlighted the new AI-powered Cadastre system and the Personal Citizen Number introduced in early June.
