Properties registered as cleared of flammable material total 701,823

The number of properties stated by owners online as having been cleared of flammable material totaled 701,823 as of Sunday, when the deadline expired.
According to Civil Protection data, a surge of applications were received by the platform https://akatharista.apps.gov.gr, with nearly 90,000 statements made online in the week. At the same time, nearly all municipalities have signed up on the platform - or 329 of all 334, as of today (June 16). Last year, the percentage was 55% (185 municipalities).
Civil Protection sources said the number was positive, since this year's deadline was a lot shorter than last year, when an extension was given to July 15, 2024.
The Fire Department and municipalities are expected to begin systematic inspections, with adminstrative sanctions wherever there is negligence, while false statements incur criminal consequences. By joint ministerial decision (KYA), the Fire Department has the right to carry out inspections and impose fines if citizens complain online that properties have not been cleared. Each municipality is also responsible to carry out random inspections that correspond to at least 5% of the total number of statements within their administrative jurisdictions.
