IOBE report: Coca-Cola's contribution to the Greek economy totals 2.2 bln euros

Coca-Cola's contribution to the Greek economy comes to 2.2 billion euros, or 0.9% of GDP, said the Foundation for Economic & Industrial Research (IOBE) in a report on the company's social and economy imprint in Greece, presented at a special event on Monday.

The report covers the period 2022-2024 for Coca-Cola Tria (3) Epsilon and Coca-Cola Hellas, and examines the company's contribution to the national economy, domestic employment, and the effect on the value chain of activities connected to the beverages sector, such as distributors, sales points, and provision of services.

Specifically, in the above three-year period, Coca-Cola implemented investments worth 142 million euros to strengthen its activities; in addition, according to data for 2024, for every 1 euro of Coca-Cola's added value, another 6.9 euros are created in total in the Greek economy. Its total contribution to Greece's public revenues totals 875 million euros, or 1.2% of the Greek state's tax revenues.

In addition, the company in Greece supports 50,700 work positions (or 1% of all employment in Greece), while for every 1 immediate work position at the company in Greece, another 21 openings are created in the Greek economy. The company also represents 55% of the sector's turnover, while it employs 40% of sector employees, becoming the largest employer of the sector.

Commenting on the report, Coca-Cola Tria Epsilon for Greece and Cyprus General Manager Svetoslav Atanasov expressed pride for the significant imprint on Greece and the confidence of distributors and consumers. Coca-Cola Hellas General Manager for Greece, Cyprus, and Malta Stavros Mourelatos said that the IOBE report results confirm that the company's development is intrinsically linked to the development of Greece, the company's staff, partners, and of the entire value chain the company creates.

IOBE General Manager Nikos Vettas said that in a globally unstable situation, the resilient value chains that weather market fluctuations provide valuable security to employees and the economy. Coca-Cola in Greece supports incomes and jobs in most of the economy's basic sectors, from agriculture to the manufacturing sector to trade and the catering sector, he noted.
