A fire that broke out in a forested area of Ano Souli in the Marathonas area on the east coast of Attica on Monday is showing an improved picture, the Fire Department said on Monday afternoon.

The fire broke out around 13:30, and a 112 emergency message was issued at 13:47, warning residents of Grammatiko to be on alert for evacuation.

A total of 140 firefighters with 38 fire trucks, 5 units on foot, and 11 aircraft with 7 helicopters are involved in putting the fire out.

A second warning on 112 was issued at 14:15, calling residents of Ano Souli to evacuate preventatively toward Grammatiko, and residents of Marathonas toward Nea Makri.
