Karagounis: Developing skills a decisive factor for professional success

The importance of developing skills in the labour market as a decisive factor for professional success and for adapting to the constantly evolving demands of employers and technology was highlighted, by the Deputy Minister of Labour, Kostas Karagounis, in an interview with Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).
As he pointed out, "The Ministry of Labour and Social Security recognises the rapid developments in the labour market, mainly due to technological advancement and Artificial Intelligence, and has shaped a strategic vision for the next decade. This vision focuses on strengthening the adaptability of the workforce through continuous training, the digitisation of services, and close cooperation with the education sector."
"In the context of major changes expected in the labour market due to technological shifts and the growing presence of Artificial Intelligence in the coming years, it is clear that the professions of the future will be significantly affected. Therefore, it is essential that we adapt to the new realities," Karagounis stated.
He also emphasised that, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and always in a complementary role to its mission, the Ministry of Labour and the competent General Directorate for Labour Relations are working on the possibility of institutionalising awareness initiatives for students, starting from middle school and high school, regarding the professions of the future and, more broadly, the upcoming changes in the world of work.
Regarding the professions expected to be in high demand in the future, Mr. Karagounis indicatively mentions some of them, such as: "Data analysis - perhaps the most promising field, with various related professions offering significant opportunities. Also, data management techniques, operational information systems, system analysis and security, and, more broadly, cybersecurity. Relevant degrees in the field include statistics, computer science, and business administration with a focus on data."
