Dendias: Satellite communications represent the sixth dimension of the "Achilles Shield"

Satellite communications represent the sixth dimension of the "Achilles Shield"-a holistic approach for effectively countering hostile threats from the air, sea, and underwater.
This was emphasised by the Minister of National Defense, Nikos Dendias, in a post on the social media platform X, referring to the node of the GOVSATCOM program, Greece’s satellite communications, and the "Achilles Shield."
"This is not merely a technological advancement," he explained, "but an extension of Defence into the domain of space. It is also part of a new national culture, where innovation serves security and strategic readiness."
"The installation of one of the two GOVSATCOM program nodes in Greece highlights our country's role as a pillar of EU security and stability," he added.
As announced, the Minister of National Defence held a discussion today with the EU Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius, regarding the forthcoming activation of the European GOVSATCOM program.
During their conversation, Dendias praised the Commissioner’s initiative not only in promoting the government nodes of GOVSATCOM but also in strengthening the EU Space Program in the field of Defence.
"Today is not just a demonstration; it is a European statement. It proves that under your leadership, we can safeguard our interests, act decisively, and secure our communications," Dendias underlined.
It is noted that Greece has been selected to host one of the two nodes of the GOVSATCOM program, following a decision by the European Union on December 18, 2024.
