Kyranakis in Parliament: Metro, tram, some buses to run on a 24-hr trial basis on Saturday, July 5

The Athens metro, tram, and selected bus lines will be run on a pilot basis for 24 hours on Saturday (July 5), Alternate Infrastructure & Transport Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis said on Wednesday in Parliament.

The trial schedule is expected to serve mostly young people who want to go out in Athens at night.
"We must implement measures in order to send a message to their parents that they will return safely at home, that they will not drive while drunk, that they will not do anything foolish."

Kyranakis thanked employees of the managing companies STASY, OSY, and OASA, as well as all trade unions that suggested proposals. "We hope this implementation works welll, is successful, so that in the coming months we can announce, following a sustainability report, on which weekend days and which days of the year we could have mass transportation operate on a 24-hour basis."
