Theodorikakos: New productive orientation "an urgent necessity"

Development Minister Takis Theodorikakos focused on the strategic direction of the Ministry of Development toward building an economy that produces, exports, innovates, and creates prospects for young people, speaking at the "Greece 2025-2030" conference, on the topic "In Search of a New Growth Model."
"The major challenges facing the country as we approach 2030 are the urgent transformation of our production model, the productive restructuring of the Greek economy, and decisive action against the acute demographic threat," he stated.

As he emphasised, the Ministry of Development is implementing a reform package across five key areas:
1. The Development Law, with transparent procedures and the involvement of the market and the banking system in the evaluation of investment plans,
2. The new National Quality Policy, which will be legislated within the next three weeks and will lay the foundation for a reliable identity for Greek products.
3. A 25% reduction in bureaucratic costs, through a new package of procedural simplification that is currently underway.
4. The national innovation strategy, through the reactivation of the National Council for Research, Technology, and Innovation (NCRTI).
5. A major reform in market supervision, with the creation of a new, strong Independent Authority-modeled after the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (IAPR)-to oversee the market and protect consumers.
"The trade balance deficit, as a percentage of GDP, remains where it was 25 years ago-when we entered the eurozone," noted the Minister of Development, describing the issue as "deeply structural."
He stated that the new productive orientation "is an urgent necessity" and has both "a technocratic and profoundly political character. We must all restore productive labour to the place it deserves. We must honor not easy profit, but the creation of wealth through organized work-on an individual, social, and national level. The greatest emphasis must be placed on innovation, extroversion, industry, manufacturing, and fair regional development," he added.
Theodorikakos emphasised that Greek production is concentrated in low-tech sectors, stressing that key priorities should be strengthening the manufacturing industry in high-tech sectors and supporting business mergers.
