Kefalogianni addresses the Investopia Global Mediterranean Forum

The main challenges facing the future of tourism worldwide were outlined by Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni at the Investopia Global Mediterranean Forum held in Limassol, Cyprus, emphasizing sustainable development, technological progress, strengthening the resilience of destinations and new trends in demand for enriched travel experiences.

Kefalogianni attended the conference on Tuesday, as an official guest of the Minister of Economy of the United Arab Emirates and President of the Investopia Global Mediterranean Forum, Abdullabin Touq Al Marri. This is an international initiative of the Ministry of Economy of the Government of the United Arab Emirates, with the aim of strengthening investment flows and creating synergies for the development of the wider Mediterranean region.

Kefalogianni participated in a panel discussion on the topic: "Beyond Borders: Tourism's Role in Economic Growth and Human Connection", where she highlighted Greece's strategic role in connecting the Mediterranean and European markets, as well as the country's position as an attractive investment destination, and added that tourism is a pillar of economic development, but also one of the most powerful mechanisms for empowering people, cultures and societies, especially in a period of international challenges and geopolitical uncertainty.

The minister stressed that "the climate crisis is increasingly affecting travel and for this reason we are implementing policies that promote energy efficiency, green infrastructure and resilience in the design of the tourism product."

She also referred to Greece's tourism strategy that emphasizes quality over quantity, seeking, through the promotion of a mix of authentic experiences, to spread tourism activity to all regions of the country and throughout the year.
