New Independent Authority against profiteering to be launched in 2026

The new Independent Authority, which will take over the coordination of controls against profiteering in the market, is set to come into operation in 2026.
As the Secretary General of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Sotiris Anagnostopoulos, emphasized in an interview with ERTNews, the new Authority will unite different bodies that were already responsible for the controls in the markets and enhance coordination and efficiency.
In addition to coordination, the new Authority will be strengthened with modern digital means, such as mobile applications for complaints, which will allow the collection of evidence and the immediate reaction of control mechanisms, even without the presence of teams in the field.
Furthermore, Anagnostopolos stated that the Independent Authority will be able to impose fines and expand control in tourist areas, where phenomena of exploitation are observed, such as excessive charges in taxis and other services.
