Rescue of 82 foreigners south of Gavdos

Two rescue operations of foreigners took place on Sunday morning in the sea area south of Gavdos island, under the coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC).

Specifically, in the first case, 38 foreigners were found on board a dinghy adrift 22 nautical miles south of Gavdos. The rescue was carried out by a Danish-flagged coaster following a signal from the Joint Rescue Coordination Center. The rescued individuals are being transferred to Agia Galini, Crete.

A few hours later, a second rescue operation took place just 0.3 nautical miles south of Gavdos. There, a Coast Guard rescue boat rescued 44 more foreigners from a dinghy. The rescued individuals were safely transported to the port of Gavdos.
The authorities continue to be on alert for any new cases in the sea area.
