Operation "Clean Registry": Unpaid debts to the state under scrutiny

The Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) is proceeding with the systematic recording and management of overdue debts to the State, with the aim of enhancing efficiency in the collection of public revenues and reflecting the realistic economic picture of the country. 
According to the most recent available data, the total amount of overdue debts amounts to approximately 108.4 billion euros, significantly burdening the state budget and financial management.
Inclusion in the registry, based on the Public Revenue Collection Code (KEDE), requires the complete exhaustion of all possibilities to locate the assets of the debtor and any co-liable persons.
The main criteria include:
-Absence of recorded assets or claims from third parties
-Filing of criminal charges where required
-Objective inability to collect
-Low-value assets (less than 5% of the principal debt, with maximum limits of 100,000 euros for real estate and 30,000 euros for movable assets
The procedure varies depending on the amount:
-For debts up to 300,000 euros, the competent local tax offices and customs authorities are responsible
-For amounts from 300,000 euros to 3 million euros, approval is required from the governor of the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE)
-For debts exceeding 3 million euros, the decision is made by the governor following a recommendation from the Operational Collection Unit
