Environment Min Papastavrou attends World Environment Day event at Prespes region

Environmental protection actions in 11 Regions of Greece concluded successfully in the context of World Environment Day (June 5). All actions were under the auspices of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy.

Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou paid a visit to Florina on Friday, to attend an action at the Prespes National Park by the Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency (NECCA), an independent agency overseen by the ministry. Western Macedonia Regional Governor Giorgos Amanatidis, New Democracy Deputy Stavros Papasotiriou, and Prespes Mayor Giorgos Stergiou attended, while children of the Center for Recreation of People with Disabilities in the Florina Municipality participated in the events.

In statements following a briefing on the National Park's environmental importance and interactive games, Minister Papastavrou said "nature accepts us all as we are" and spoke of the prime minister's goal of overcoming obstsacles to inclusivity for all, particularly for people with disabilities. "It is with great joy that we celebrated World Environment Day here at the borderland Prespes, with children. Nature points the way."  

The events organized in the Regions were included in the ministry statement. They ranged from awareness events related to the protection of the environment, water resources, and waste recycling.
