Androulakis to Patriarch Theodoros II: 'We will always stand at your side'

Main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis had a meeting with Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, while in the Egyptian city on Friday morning.
"In more than 20 years as Patriarch you have travelled throughout Africa. You have offered much to the children of Africa, who must contend with difficult conditions in troubled times," Androulakis said, congratulating the Patriarch for his efforts, including his important contributions to interfaith dialogue.
"Our meeting today is a great honour for me. We will always stand at your side with all our strength because the Orthodox faith and our Patriarchates do work, not only for our faithful but for all people," PASOK-KINAL's leader added, while also highlighting the Patriarch's Cretan origins.
"I welcome you with all my heart, my Cretan heart," the Patriarch responded, referring to his years growing up in Arkalochori, Crete and pointing out that the Patriarchate supported 2,000 schools and 3,000 medical centres in 45 countries on the African "continent of the future".
"Our poor Patriarchate does what it can to help people in pain," Patriarch Theodoros said and highlighted the long presence of the Patriarchate and the Holy Monastery of St. Catherine of Sinai "in this hospitable land of Egypt, with which you are aware how greatly we are linked by friendship and the Mediterranean Sea, which I declare should be a sea of peace and reconciliation between peoples."
