Two Turks wanted in Greece for firing on intelligence service agents arrested in Bulgaria
Two Turkish nationals wanted by Greek authorities in connection with the shots fired at National Intelligence Service (EYP) agents in Thermi, Thessaloniki have been found and arrested in Bulgaria, sources at the Thessaloniki Appeals Prosecutor's Office said on Tuesday.
The process for their extradition to Greece will now begin, with a request from Greek judicial authorities to those of Bulgaria, the sources said.
The two individuals in custody have been charged with complicity in attempted homicide and warrants for their arrest have been issued.
Their arrest had been preceded by that of their 49-year-old compatriot, considered responsible for actually pulling the trigger on the EYP agents, in Greece on Saturday morning. He was found in a shed in the village Kato Vyrsini in the mountains of Rodopi and faces charges of attempted homicide, illegal weapons possession and use. He is to appear before a Thessaloniki examining magistrate on Wednesday.
The 49-year-old appeared to be searching for a path that would take him on foot across the border into Bulgaria, which his two compatriots apparently succeeded in doing.
