Mitsotakis: Citizens should know that there is a wide range of housing programmes from which they can benefit

“ There is currently a wide range of programmes from which citizens can benefit,” noted Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during a meeting he chaired on Tuesday at the Maximos Mansion, focusing on the presentation of the stegasi.gov.gr portal for housing policy. This portal allows citizens to easily, with just a few clicks, find all available programmes for purchasing, renovating, repairing, or upgrading a home that match their profile, as well as the subsidies, tax reliefs, or support measures available to both homeowners and renters.

According to government sources, the new portal brings together, for the first time in a user-friendly manner, detailed information on the 43 housing-related initiatives implemented by the government, with a total budget of 6.5 billion euros. This allows interested parties to easily gather all the information they need, without hassle or inconvenience, through yet another service of the digital state.
Indicatively, the initiatives include 21 housing programmes - such as “ My Home 1”, “ My Home 2”, “ Renovate - Rent”, the return of one month’s rent each November, and all energy upgrade programs; also, 11 tax measures, such as the reduction of ENFIA (property tax) and tax exemptions for properties placed under long-term lease; and 11 regulatory or policy initiatives, such as temporary restrictions on short-term rentals and the increase of the minimum investment threshold for acquiring a golden visa.

During his remarks, Mitsotakis notably pointed out that: "I believe this is an extremely useful initiative, especially when one considers the breadth of interventions - many of which, unfortunately, are not known to the public. And it's very important that citizens are aware that there is currently a wide range of programmes from which they can benefit.

"People generally know about our flagship initiatives, the 'My Home 1' and 'My Home 2' programmes, but there are many other actions related, for example, to home repairs through loans or subsidies, and various tax incentives available to property owners who want to switch from short-term to long-term rentals. All of this is now gathered on this platform, and in a very simple and user-friendly way, citizens can search for the information that is relevant to them.

"Obviously, the government continues to focus intensely on this major issue-both from the supply side and the demand side.

"This recently announced initiative is also important: the return of one month’s rent to nearly all renters in the country, which will be paid at the end of November this year. It’s a permanent support measure, especially for our younger fellow citizens who are currently renting.

"But clearly, since this is a dynamic market, it’s very important for us to have continuous data that we can analyse, so that we can adjust our policies according to how the market itself responds to them."

Michailidou: Government channelling 6.5 billion euros into a wide range of housing policies

"Today I presented to the prime minister and the deputy prime minister the new housing portal, which each and every one of us can enter and find all the information gathered about housing programmes, tax breaks, but also all the reforms we have made to be able to help the Greek household, the Greek family, in the very important issue of housing," Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou said on Tuesday, after the conclusion of the relevant meeting held at the Maximos Mansion and chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

"Forty-three policies. The government is allocating 6.5 billion euros to a very wide range of policies, so as to increase the supply of real estate on the market, but also to help prospective owners and prospective tenants in finding a more affordable home. So go to stegasi.gov.gr and personalise your application so that by entering your age, where you live, your employment status and your income, you can see which programmes are available for you," Michailidou said and added:

"There is a smart search engine that filters, based on the characteristics you enter, in less than a minute and shows you which programmes exist and which you can apply for, for you. What you save and which link you should click to start your application. I think it is simple, easy, user-friendly. We publish a report every month, in which you can see the implementation of the programmes and how they are going. And of course, we also await the response of the public to see what we can do even better."
