Kerameus: Record high in number of new jobs in April 2025

The record number of new jobs recorded in April, according to the official data from the "ERGANI" IT system, the decrease in unemployment, and the increase in recorded overtime in the tourism sector due to the Digital Work Card, were the main points of an interview given by Labour and Social Security Minister Niki Kerameus to the public broadcaster ERT on Tuesday.
"The 133,907 new jobs in April represent the highest number ever recorded for the month of April in the country," said the minister, adding that the majority of the jobs were full-time positions and had primarily gone to women and young people.
Responding to a related question, Kerameus confirmed the drop in unemployment in April to 8.3%, the lowest rate of the past 17 years, which meant that Greece's unemployment rate dropped lower than that of Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Spain.
Regarding the Digital Work Card, she noted that it currently protects 1.5 million workers and made special reference to the tourism sector, highlighting that in the first month of the measure’s full implementation in this sector, there had been a remarkable 637% increase in declared hours of overtime.
