Kyranakis meets with trade unionists representing striking taxi drivers

Αlternate Infrastructure and Transport Minister Konstantinos Kyranakis on Wednesday had a working meeting with the president of the Panhellenic Federation of Taxis Lefteris Petrakis, as well as board members of the Federation and the Attica Union of Taxi Drivers (SATA).
The meeting took place within the framework of the dialogue underway between the Ministry and all professional bodies in the transport sector that aims to shape policies responding to the real needs of the industry and contribute to the overall improvement of urban transport.
According to a statement from the transport ministry, among the issues discussed were: the possibility of strengthening digital checks for special permits, legislation allowing the use of bus lanes by taxis, extending the option to convert vehicles into nine-seaters throughout the country, and amending the current framework regarding the reclassification of vehicles within a one-year period.
The discussion was conducted in a constructive atmosphere, with a shared willingness for ongoing cooperation and sincere dialogue. It was agreed that regular communication between the two sides should continue, with the aim of finding fair and realistic solutions that enhance the functionality of the transport system.
"The primary goal of the Ministry is the continuous improvement of urban transport, with a focus on better serving citizens and recognising the essential role of all modes of transportation, including taxis, within the overall transport network," according to the ministry's announcement.
