Turkish Cuisine Week event at ambassador's residence in Athens

An event at the Turkish ambassador's residence was held on Tuesday evening as part of the "Week of Turkish Cuisine in Türkiye and abroad."

The event, which took place at all Turkish embassies, opened in Athens with an address by Turkish Ambassador Çağatay Erciyes.

As he said, every year the cuisine of a different region of Türkiye is highlighted. This year's theme was classic dishes of Turkish cuisine. A total of 14 classic dishes were presented, many of which were familiar to Greek guests "because our joint geography and history have led to many gastronomic parallels," the ambassador said, "although you will see that the recipes, the ingredients, and the preparation methods often differ." Some of the common dishes were the Turkish version of moussaka, or the Kuru Köfte meatballs.

Concluding, Ambassador Erciyes said that the Turkish cuisine is a harmonious mix of Ottoman palace cuisine and the rich local cuisines of Türkiye, as well as a tasty mix of influences from Central Asia, Anatolia, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and the Balkans.

The ambassador also referred to the support of Emine Erdoğan, wife of the Turkish president, for these events, as well as to that of his wife Hala for supporting the event, and wished guests 'Kali orexi' (bon appetit) in Greek.
