ND proposal for investigative committee on liability of former ministers

Ruling New Democracy (ND) party released its proposal for a Special Parliamentary Committee that will examine any liabilities of two former infrastructure and transportation ministers over the deadly train collision at Tempi in 2023.

For ex-minister Kostas Ach. Karamanlis, the party proposed a Special Parliamentary Committee to review whether Karamanlis committed breach of duty in the period September 2021 to February 2023, inclusive. The breach of duty relates to the possible omission in establishing an adequate funding framework for the railroad sector, that would have provided the Hellenic Railroad Organization (OSE) with adequate staff, among others.

For former minister Christos Spirtzis, ND said in its proposal that he was responsible for the delay in the completion of the contract 717/14, related to the signalling and telemanagement system. It also said that the statute of limitations has expired, therefore making null any investigation of him. Even if the constitution is reformed, he cannot be investigated retroactively, it noted.
