Making the payment of rents through banking mandatory is under consideration by the government, National Economy & Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said at the 3rd Real Estate conference by Capital.gr and Forbes Greece at the Athens Concert Hall on Tuesday.

Pierrakakis noted among other issues the need to improve transparency in transactions related to property rentals. "We agree, I believe, that the average monthly rent in Greece is not 255 euros. It is clear that the real data diverge, and we need tools to record reality accurately," he said.

Referring to taxation of rental revenues, the minister said that "such announcements are traditionally made by the prime minister at the context of the Thessaloniki International Fair."
