Papathanasis: Train and infrastructure upgrades for Metro Line 1 (Piraeus–Kifisia) via NSRF

The "Transport 2021-2027" programme, part of Greece's National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF), includes the modernisation of trains and infrastructure on the Piraeus-Kifissia electric railway line (Metro Line 1), with a total public expenditure of 90,382,520 euros, by decision of the Alternate Minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis.

Specifically, 14 trains each having five carriages (70 in total) are being upgraded, so that there is a capability of productive operation for 25 years following the completion of the contract. Also, two traction substations which supply Line 1, one in the Athens district of Iraklio and one in Neo Faliro, are to be upgraded, with the simultaneous relocation of the Faliro substation to a new building and the installation of energy recovery systems from the electric braking of the trains. Further necessary technical interventions are also included.
