ECONOMIST IMPACT-Androulakis: SMEs form the backbone of the Greek economy

Main opposition PASOK-Movement fore Change leader Nikos Androulakis presented his party's plan with 9 proposals for competitive small and medium-sized enterprises during his speech at the 2nd European Business Summit - How can Greek SMEs fuel innovation, competitiveness and prosperity in a volatile global economy?
co-organized by the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen and The Economist, at a central hotel in Athens on Saturday.
PASOK leader stated that "SMEs are not asking for favors; they are asking for prospects, dignity, equal treatment, respect, and access to a state that does not hold them back but empowers them." He noted that PASOK’s goal for Greece over the next decade "is to make our country a magnet for good jobs, to ensure that productive work guarantees a decent life and the prospect that our children will live better than we do." He argued that achieving this "requires a completely different economic policy than the one implemented by the New Democracy government over the past six years." He emphasized that PASOK will fight to ensure that the benefits of growth are distributed with social justice for all citizens and stressed that Greece can achieve this with SMEs as allies.
After noting that SMEs - "which form the backbone of the Greek economy" - are under pressure, he emphasized that today’s central challenge concerns "the design of the necessary policies for the transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises and their involvement in the country’s productive restructuring."
He stated that "if we want to seriously talk about sustainable development, social cohesion, and the transition to a green and digital economy, we must place SMEs at the core of our national economic policy," with policies that must have a progressive character. He said that, for PASOK, a national priority is “ the immediate establishment of a National Strategic Development Plan ‘Made in Greece,’ leveraging all our comparative advantages and promoting them through national and European funding tools."
