Forum to promote smart ports, sustainable shipping and use of AI at Laskaridis Foundation in Piraeus on June 19

The first First AI-Powered Maritime Collaboration & Optimisation for the Mediterranean (MARCO MED) Forum will take place at the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation in Piraeus on June 19.

Hosted by Global Spatial Technology Solutions (GSTS), the Forum will bring together leaders from the maritime, government, and technology sectors to explore how artificial intelligence is reshaping port operations, emissions management, and intermodal efficiency.

The half-day workshop will feature keynote talks, panel discussions, and live demonstrations of GSTS's OCIANA platform, with a focus on real-world applications of AI for smarter, more sustainable port ecosystems.

Topics include:

- AI-powered port call optimisation and real-time emissions tracking

- Maritime risk and security through predictive technologies

- Collaboration across ports, agents, and authorities

- The role of AI in supporting EU sustainability and port innovation goals.

The event will be addressed by the Embassy of Canada Commercial Attache Neil Swain. Speakers include representatives of the shipping ministry, ports, shipping companies, and Maria Boile, professor of policy and administration of ports and terminal stations at the University of Piraeus' Shipping Studies Department, who is also director of the Laboratory of Quantitative Analysis in Maritime Transportation.
Its works will revolve around two themes:

- Digital collaboration and data exchange on a joinjt platform, to improve ship arrivals and departures in order to achieve 'Just in Time' arrivals and manage/scheduling of piers and anchoring, and

- Forecast analysis and support of decision-making with AI to manage threats and security at ports, in an increasingly uncertain global environment.

GSTS CEO Richard Kolacz welcomed the first MARCO MED Forum in Piraeus, one of the most important port hubs in the Mediterrranean, and said the purpose of the event is to boost collaboration among basic area agencies and highlight the role of Ociana as an advanced AI solution for shipping companies.
