Government Council for Economic Policy to discuss 2028-2034 Multiannual Financial Framework negotiations

The launch of negotiations for the new EU Multiannual Financial Framework (2028-2034), as well as the planning of the new generation of projects, is at the centre of a meeting of the Government Council for Economic Policy (KYSOIP), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis, on Monday, at the Bodossakis Mansion.
According to sources in Hatzidakis' office, the government is preparing for the negotiations and aims to make the best possible use of the financial tools of the new period. In addition, the government will demand the financing with sufficient resources of the basic development and social sectors, and critical public goods with multiplicative benefits, such as defensive protection and energy interconnections.
At the same time, it is promoting, for the first time, a joint action plan at national, regional and local level, through the National Strategy for Regional and Local Development, for which the presidency is designing the specifics and enriching, so that the financial tools can be utilised to address regional inequalities and local problems.
The Council meeting will also discuss the government's planning for networks - road, energy, telecommunications and railways - and how this is reflected on the map of the country, according to the same sources. The aim is to plan the new generation of projects required for the completion of the country's networks and infrastructure. "Greece is looking ahead, interconnecting all its regions with each other, and making up the distance from the advanced countries of Europe," it underlined.
