ANA-MPA participated in the spring conference of the European Alliance of News Agencies

The Spring Conference of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA), hosted by the Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA), took place in Tirana on 15 May 2025, bringing together CEOs, editors-in-chief and other executives from 30 of the leading European News Agencies. The theme of the conference was: "Threats to Journalism and News Agencies and Tools of Resistance."

 

The conference was attended by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), which is a member of EANA.

The editor-in-chief and head of the Research, Development and Commercial Department of ANA-MPA, Yiannis Georgiou, presented the Agency's strategy for digital transformation and innovation, during the transition from a traditional to a modern news organisation, in the age of AI.

 

Regarding the preparedness to deal with emerging threats such as AI, state pressure and economic instability:

 

27% of respondents consider news agencies to be partially prepared

22% consider them to be well prepared

17% consider them to be fully prepared and resilient

12% consider them to be slightly unprepared

3% consider them to be very poorly prepared and

3% consider them to be not at all prepared

When asked about strategic priorities, respondents identified the following as top actions to strengthen journalism:

-Training journalists (including in the use of AI)

-Ensuring sustainable business models

-Strengthening legal protection

-Encouraging international cooperation

-Promoting media literacy for the public

-Investing in the safety of journalists
