Mendoni: Greece’s museum landscape is changing radically

Culture Minister Lina Mendoni, in a statement on International Museum Day, said that "their impact depends on their integration into everyday life and public debate: Educate, inspire, transmit knowledge, but also generate emotion and empathy."

She also points out that in 2020 the Ministry of Culture created the Integrated Information System for the Recognition and Certification of Greek museums.

"The museum landscape in our country is changing radically. The Ministry of Culture, from 2019 to date, has delivered to Greek society 26 new or fully renovated museums," Mendoni said, citing the National Gallery, the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens and the Arethoussa Archaeological Museum in Chalkida.

"Today, projects are underway for the establishment or reopening of another 28 museums, with a phased delivery from 2025 to 2028," Mendoni said, stressing that the process of preparing and maturing the studies for 20 more museums, such as the National Archaeological Museum, is underway.
