The archaeological site of Knossos on Crete will remain closed until at least 16:00 on Friday due to gale force winds blowing in the area since early on Friday morning.

The decision to close the site was reached at 13:00 and visitors to the site were asked to depart with the help of the staff, without any problems arising. 

Decisions on what will happen after 16:00 will depend on how the weather conditions unfold over the next few hours.
