FinMin Pierrakakis attends ECOFIN meeting on competitiveness and defence
Finance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis participated in the Eurogroup and ECOFIN meetings in Brussels.
Regarding the Eurogroup, Pierrakakis emphasised that there was an opportunity to discuss strategic priorities, specifically the development of the digital euro and the finalisation of the Banking Union. On the ECOFIN meeting, he said that with his counterparts they discussed the global economic outlook.
“ I reiterated Greece's commitment to a rules-based international economic order, as well as our support to the European Commission for the development of a comprehensive trade agreement between the United States and the European Union,” he said, adding that European competitiveness, cutting red tape, growth, and the EU's savings and investment strategy were discussed.
On defence, he stated that “ it is a geopolitical necessity for all member states” and emphasised the importance of developing a national defence industry, which he identified as a strategic priority for Greece.
