Greece and Italy sign cooperation memoranda on joint police patrols and organised crime
Two Memoranda of Cooperation were signed by the Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis and the Italian Minister of Interior Matteo Piantedosi at the 2nd High Council of Cooperation between Greece and Italy.
The first memorandum concerns joint patrols by Greek and Italian police officers which will be carried out on a pilot basis in summer in tourist resorts of the two countries.
In addition, cooperation between the Greek and Italian police forces in the fight against narcotics and organised crime will be intensified.
Τhe two ministers also noted the need to strengthen cooperation between the services in the fight against organised transnational crime, which has been made a priority in the European Security Agenda.
The meeting also addressed issues of strengthening cooperation between Greece and Italy in the field of border protection, through the use of new technologies, exchange of experience and good practices in the management of migration flows. The analysis and prevention of threats linked to terrorism were also discussed.
