Tassoulas meets with the Permanent Delegate of Greece to UNESCO

President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine Tassoulas on Monday received the Permanent  Delegate of Greece to UNESCO, Georgios Koumoutsakos, who informed him of the decision of the Executive Board of UNESCO to declare February 9 as the International Day of the Greek Language.
Koumoutsakos also briefed Tassoulas on the next procedural steps, up until the formal ratification of the decision next November at the General Conference of the organisation.
On his part, the President of the Republic emphasised that "this decision recognises the timelessness of the Greek language and its invaluable contribution to the cultural heritage of humanity and in particular to the formation of Western Civilization," and congratulated all the contributors to the initiative, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Delegation of the Hellenic Republic to UNESCO and Koumoutsakos.
