Pierrakakis in Brussels for Eurogroup and ECOFIN

The Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, will participate in the Eurogroup and ECOFIN meetings to be held in Brussels on Monday and Tuesday.
The Eurogroup will discuss in detail the implementation of Europe's Banking Union. In this context, a hearing will be held with the President of the Supervisory Board of the European Central Bank, which is the body responsible for the supervision of systemic credit institutions in the eurozone. The finance ministers will be informed about the preparation of the annual meeting of the European Stability Mechanism, which will take place in June. In the enlarged composition of the Eurogroup, global economic developments will be discussed, with a focus on the key points from the G7 meetings. Emphasis will also be placed on the progress of the plan for the introduction of the digital euro.
The ECOFIN meeting to be held on Tuesday will discuss the European Commission's Communication on the Savings and Investment Union, which aims to boost competitiveness, simplify and improve the business environment in the European Union.
Finance ministers will exchange views on the financing of European defence and the strengthening of the European defence industry, focusing on the SAFE Regulation under preparation, which provides for joint action on defence and security in Europe. The ECOFIN agenda also includes a discussion on the economic and financial impact of Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
