Androulakis: It is obvious there is no plan on electrical interconnection of Greece-Cyprus-Israel

Main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis on Sunday addressing Crete's regional congress of PASOK referred to the electrical interconnection of Greece-Cyprus-Israel. "It is obvious that there is no plan. The country has committed 650 million euros for a project and I have asked the Prime Minister in Parliament, the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Foreign Affairs to tell us something simple: what is the timetable for the implementation of this project. It is not only the money, it is also our sovereign rights"
On the energy and the scenario that Europe has drawn its own energy strategy he said "While Greece does not depend on natural gas-I'm always referring to electricity generation, which is the critical factor, and we don't have a heavy industry as large as Germany's-it suddenly acquires a huge dependency on natural gas. While we knew, since the events in Crimea had already taken place, that the scenario of escalation was possible, and thus dependency, and therefore blackmail and geopolitical risk." He added: "What is our country doing, instead of investing in networks? Why can't we make a fair green transition and move away from the polluting lignite with a healthy regulatory system and geopolitical security? Because we don't have networks, either internally or externally."
As for how energy is priced today, Nikos Androulakis concluded by saying: "People need to learn what the reality is. What is the percentage from the energy stock exchange overnight, and what happens every morning in Greece when the price of energy skyrockets?"
