Mitsotakis: The Greek public sector should serve the citizens and not itself

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in his weekly review on the social media on Sunday referred to the public services evaluation platform axiologisi.ypes.gov.gr. "It is a process that is being done for the first time in Greece and runs in parallel with the internal evaluation procedures for services and employees that we have introduced from 2023. The questionnaire covers the most key areas of the public sector and its results will be extracted and made public, providing a useful guide to improve the state both at central and local government level. The purpose of these efforts is not to punish, but to improve. To identify weaknesses and intervene where necessary for a more friendly and efficient state. "Very soon, we will also begin to send out digital and specific questionnaires to evaluate frontline services, such as health services, which will be evaluated by those who are discharged following hospitalisation in one of our hospitals. In this way, we will be able to record the opinion of each hospital and become better overall. The Greek public sector should serve the citizens and not itself."

Afterwards, he spoke of the National Strategy for the Prevention of Violence and Juvenile Deliquency which is implemented for the first time in Greece: "We did not start from scratch. From 2019, we are implementing a series of policies against all forms of violence that contribute directly or indirectly to the protection of minors, incorporating modern concepts of prevention, protection of children, support for victims, as well as rehabilitation and social reintegration of juvenile offenders. We incorporate modern concepts and tools, such as the Stop Bullying platform, Safe Youth, now also Kids Wallet , a Greek innovative digital application that has already been internationally recognised as a good practice for tackling juvenile internet addiction."

The prime minister also said that following the government's initiative to cut port fees and port charges by 50%, no increase in ferry fares is expected, which the ferry companies had announced due to the mandatory European directive that all ships use the more expensive "green" fuel. "The government and the Ministry of Shipping are monitoring the prices of ferry tickets and we are making efforts to alleviate the costs of travellers," he underlined.
