Commissioner Tzitzikostas visits Kastellorizo on Europe Day

Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism Apostolos Tzitzikostas visited Kastellorizo to celebrate Europe Day. At the Town Hall he met with the Mayor of Megisti (Kastellorizo) Nikos Asvestis; later he visited the Monument of the Lady of Ro and the school, where he talked to the students and teachers. Tzitzikostas also visited the Port Authority, the Customs and the Camp.
"On Europe Day, I chose to be in Kastellorizo, where our Greek citizens defend the borders and values of the European Union every day, to send a double, clear message. "All citizens of our Union, regardless of their location or remoteness, have the right to equal opportunities, modern infrastructure, and practical solidarity," Tzitzikostas stated. He emphasised the necessity for Europe to remain united, supportive, and protective of its citizens. “ In this time of international uncertainty and global turmoil, our outermost islands play a crucial role in Europe's efforts to strengthen its defence and safeguard its borders. Defending Europe's territorial integrity is essential for the economic prosperity and enhancement of the quality of life for our islanders and all European citizens. Thus, from this outermost part of Greece, we reaffirm our commitment to a Europe that prioritises peace, security, and progress. For a Europe that, beginning from this outermost border, stands by its citizens and ensures that no one is left behind," Tzitzikostas noted.
