Rhodes and Kastellorizo celebrate Europe Day; Commissioner Tzitzikostas participating as a keynote speaker

The EU Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, is visiting Rhodes and Kastellorizo to participate in the events celebrating Europe Day.
Tzitzikostas is expected to send his own message from Kastellorizo, while earlier he will be the keynote speaker at the event organised by the European Commission Delegation to Greece, in Rhodes.
The choice of the two islands is not accidental. It responds to the European Commission's policy of strengthening its presence in local communities and regions of the European Union, but also to the delegation's desire to highlight the great history and culture of a region located in a strategic point in south-eastern Europe.
Europe Day in Rhodes is organised with the support of the Region of South Aegean, the Municipality of Rhodes, the Municipality of Megisti (Kastellorizo), Europe Direct South Aegean and other local and regional authorities of Rhodes, educational institutions and in particular with the support of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Dodecanese and the Museum of Modern Greek Art of the Municipality of Rhodes, which generously provided emblematic spaces for the events.
The programme includes events throughout the day, such as activities with students and pupils, an art exhibition with works by young artists and guided tours of the medieval city. Embassies of Member States of the European Union, the European Investment Bank, European Commission services and government agencies will participate in the events with their own pavillions.
Also, the National Theatre of Rhodes will be illuminated with the colors of the European Union as a contribution to the celebration of Europe Day highlighting the active role of the EU in Rhodes (the reconstruction of the theatre is financed by European funds).
