Piraeus port to be upgraded with a focus on passenger experience and safety

The Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Vassilis Kikilias, met on Wednesday afternoon with senior executives of Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA) in the presence of CEO Su Xudong and Deputy CEO Angelos Karakostas.
The meeting explored the upgrade of infrastructure and the improvement of the travel experience for the millions of passengers moving through Piraeus. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy and the Piraeus Port Authority agreed on a joint plan of immediate interventions, focusing on safety, accessibility and quality service for passengers.
The main interventions include:
- Fencing of mooring and loading areas, improved lighting, and installation of high-definition cameras.
- New stations are to be created, with shaded areas featuring cooling systems, chemical toilets, free drinking water, and a first aid post.
- Construction of ramps for persons with disabilities and deployment of low-floor shuttle buses.
- Installation of real-time information screens for gates, routes, and connections.
- Repairs to sidewalks and drainage systems, repainting works, additional waste bins, and a new recycling management system.
"We are making substantial investments in the port's shipping side so that the 11.5 million visitors experience a modern, welcoming and safe environment. We want the port of Piraeus to reflect its importance for tourism and the connection with our islands," said Kikilias.
For his part, Su Xudong said that PPA “ always follows the guidelines of the Ministry of Maritime and Island Policy. I received very clear objectives from the Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Minister Vassilis Kikilias. We are committed to continuing to make efforts in the common interest of the Greek citizens."
