Akis Skertsos: "Next to the children, against violence"

The presentation of the National Strategy for the Prevention and Combating of Violence and Delinquency of Minors was the focus of State Minister Akis Skertsos' interview with public broadcaster ERT1.
"Today we will present to the Prime Minister a work that has been done over the past year following his own mandate and assignment to a committee of distinguished scientists who deal with the issues of crime, delinquency, corrections, but also with the general issues of better and more harmonious coexistence in society. These people sat down and studied all the phenomena of violence in Greece and internationally, and the best practices, and they have created a text," he said.
Moreover, "a group of actions and interventions in 29 policy areas will be presented to the prime minister and the co-responsible ministers.
Given the opportunity, the Minister of State pointed out that "there is violence even in public discourse and we must all be vigilant. We must seek positive role models and stand against every form of violence."
Returning to today's announcements, "the most emblematic of those that will be presented today and put into use is the so-called kids wallet. It is the version of the digital wallet that we all have within the framework of gov.gr. We are creating a digital wallet for children who have a mobile phone. Parents will be able, through this application created by the Ministry of Digital Governance under Dimitris Papastergiou, to exercise the so-called parental control. This is a critical and key issue. We have found that a child can be in front of a screen for 6 to 8 hours every day. In addition to various problems (distraction, poor sleep quality, social isolation) there are many invisible digital risks."
Skertsos, added: "The application enables parents, in collaboration with teenagers, to have a better picture of the time they spend in front of their mobile phones. They can set limits on mobile phone use." However, he clarified, "we are not going to impose anything repressively, but to give families tools."
