Mitsotakis holds meetings with Metsola, Kristersson and Virkkunen

Prime Minister and New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, the Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, as well as the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Technological Self-Sufficiency, Security and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, on the sidelines of the second day of the European People's Party summit in Valencia.
As stated in a press release by the prime minister's press office, during the meeting between Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his Swedish counterpart, issues of European interest were raised, with an emphasis on the latest developments in Ukraine and the European economy. Furthermore, the two leaders also discussed issues concerning the exposure of minors to social media.
In fact, the prime minister made special reference to the tools developed by the Greek government within the framework of the National Strategy for the Protection of Minors from Internet Addiction and underlined that the European Union must find the right balance between, on the one hand, the regulatory framework for platforms and technology companies and, on the other hand, the development of innovation. During his meeting with Henna Virkunnen, the prime minister underlined that Greece has a comprehensive National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, human talent, while it has been selected for one of the first seven AI Factories of the EU and has a dynamic ecosystem of start-ups in the field of artificial intelligence.
He also stressed the need for an ethical and security framework for the use of artificial intelligence, which will protect users, but at the same time will not limit innovation and the development of technology. Finally, Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Roberta Metsola discussed issues on the European agenda and European legislative initiatives.
